Well, we started out as hall-mates. I was a super senior (weee!) and Merlyn was a freshman. She, incidentally, was the only freshman who did not complain about MY noise. I noticed immediately her vibrant and welcoming countenance. Then, via some text messages and lots of running into one another, I realized she might have thought I was as cool as I thought she was.
Cut to what feels like a million years later. I write a play, I have a part, and I immediately think of her. Can’t put my finger on why, but she would be perfect. I contact her, we meet, and I can tell this is the beginning of a beautiful artistic friendship. Cut to a year after that. After dealing with family trauma, I am ready to be back in the only home I have ever known, and continue this wonderful thing we got goin’ on, because Merlyn is truly outstanding. I’ll let her continue:
“Imagine a Caribbean girl who wants to make a difference. Imagine a New Yorker whose first experience as a choreographer made her want to be nothing but a choreographer. and a doctor. and a revolutionary. and a magical fairy. I’m grateful for GNDT for helping me to realize a dream.”
Get ready, folks. Or, rather, we’re BACK, bitches!

Come to our first fundraiser of the year on February 17th at the Country Club! 634 Louisa St., NOLA 70117.
